Things to do on your visit.
Portnoo and its sister village of Narin are small but attractive holiday resorts on the northern shore of the Dawros peninsula in Donegal.
Situated within view of Portnoo Golf Club and Clooney Lake, it is only minutes away from the two-mile stretch of Narin’s glorious Blue Flag beach on the Atlantic coast.
Narin strand is a short walk from the hotel over the golf course, through the dunes to the beach. The shallow waters are suitable for children and there are lifeguards present during the summer months.
Inniskeel Island is off Narin beach and is accessible at low tide. It contains the ruins of St Conal’s 6th Century Church. This has been a pilgrimage site for hundreds of years.
Portnoo harbour provides a pleasant walk around the rocks and up through the fields to the top of Lackagh Hill. From here there is a wonderful view across Roanish Island and the Atlantic from Dun Mor, the look-out post used in World War 2.
Doon Fort, also known as O’Boyle’s Fort, is a large stone structure believed to be over 2000 years old. It is built in the middle of Loughadoon (Doon Lake). The approach is by boat and the first view you receive of the fort, on rounding the headland, suggests that it is floating on water, a sight you will always remember.
The Dolmen is a pre-historic burial site. It is located beside St Conal’s Church, Kilclooney and is one of the finest remaining sites in the country.
Narin and Portnoo Golf Club is a par 73 links golf course and was voted one of the top ten value for money Irish courses in 2007.
In the area there are also opportunities for Angling, Riding, Golf and Pitch and Putt, Shopping, and of course visits to our attractions at Glenveagh National Park, Heritage Centre Killybegs, Cinemas at Letterkenny and Bundoran, funfair attractions at Bundoran, Parian China Centre, Ballyshannon Ireland’s leading Pottery and Visitor Centre Complex.
These are just a few of the ideas we can offer for your entertainment on fine-weather days and even perhaps on the occasional rainy day, too!
